After Julian Assange was arrested by British authorities with the intent to turn him over to the United States, American mainstream corporate media sources opined that it was no big deal because the charges were not very broadly defined and did not include journalism. One common refrain: he is not a real journalist. Now the Trump Administration Department of Justice is charging him with espionage with a view towards setting a precedent that could affect mainstream journalists. Suddenly they're really worried.
