IPTC: Caption	John Glenn was an iconic astronaut known for his easy-going manner and calm charisma, a quintessentially American image of masculinity during the Cold War. As an Ohioan, he was also my US senator for many years. Anyone can ride in a spaceship or serve as a politician, but class is rare.
